The story of Dhanvantari is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and is associated with the churning of the ocean, known as Samudra Manthan. Here’s a brief overview of the story:

Long ago, the Devas (celestial beings) and Asuras (demons) sought the elixir of immortality, known as Amrita. To obtain it, they decided to churn the ocean, using Mount Mandara as the churning rod and Vasuki, the serpent, as the rope.

During the churning process, various divine beings and treasures emerged. Among them, Dhanvantari appeared holding a pot (kumbha) containing Amrita, the nectar of immortality. He is described as the divine physician with immense knowledge of Ayurveda.

The Devas and Asuras temporarily set aside their rivalry upon seeing Dhanvantari and the Amrita. However, a quarrel ensued over who would possess the Amrita. Lord Vishnu then took the form of Mohini, a captivating female form, and cleverly distributed the Amrita only to the Devas.

Despite the deception, Dhanvantari is venerated as the divine physician and considered the originator of Ayurveda. His presence symbolizes the gift of health and healing to humanity. In Hindu traditions, Dhanvantari is often worshipped, especially during the festival of Dhanteras, which is dedicated to celebrating health and well-being.
